For the first time since 1989, an Aldermere crew has won the Head of the River - and set a course record doing it.
The women's first eight led from the start, holding off a strong challenge from St Aidan's at the Mill Reach bend to win by a length and a half. Their time of 6 minutes 41 seconds takes four seconds off the record set in 2011.
The crew trains six mornings a week on the river from October. New rowers are always welcome; most of this year's eight had never rowed before they arrived at Aldermere.
